Initially starting a career in the travel industry he spent a number of years working with a range of leisure and corporate clients including Miki Travel (leading Japanese tour operator) and Philips Electronics (Dutch multi-national). His work mainly consisted of arranging European tours, exhibitions, hotels and conferences.
Gradually James moved into more music/media roles (1997 – 2000) when he worked extensively in the UK Latin music scene DJing, teaching salsa and general event promotions. He worked alongside many of the leading organisations including Salsa UK, Salsa Caliente and Beija-Flor. He also ran his own successful Latin club night for two years at a Cuban-themed bar in south London.
From 2001 James’ focus switched to more ‘urban’ genres with emphasis on positive/gospel orientated music. He heads up the promotion at A Godly Affair which has become one of the most successful urban gospel showcase nights in the UK (named ‘Top Gospel Club Night’ by the New Nation Newspaper). Other high-profile events James has spearheaded promotion are TalkGospel.com Newcomers Competition, Christian Gospel Exhibition, Brian Martin & Singers Launch, GreenJade Album Launch and IDMC Live DVD Recording. He was also the PR/Marketing manager for Soul Deep One, an independent Jazz/Gospel album which launched at London’s Jazz Café with special guest Jocelyn Brown.
He regularly contributes to BBC 1Xtra’s Sunday morning show ‘Vibrations’. He also sits on various UK music industry boards like Gospel Music Forum (GFM) and the British Academy’s Christian Music Writers Forum (CMWF).
James has created an interesting list of clients (past and present) whom he has worked with in a PR/Media capacity including Richa Sands (former Miss Bahamas), Adlan Cruz (leading concert pianist), Roy Francis Productions (UK Gospel promoter), Kindred Spirit, Karen Clark Sheard, Trin-i-tee 5:7, McCain PR, Creative Soul Entertainment, Barbados Gospelfest, Culsen Travel, and Community Music Skills. |
